I’ve recently been to someone else’s event, they booked me as a key speaker but I also went to do some networking and to win more business. At every event, there are things that I do, whether they are my own or someone else’s, and I’m going to share them with you.
So, these are my 5 tips.
Tip Number 1
When you attend an event, you’ve got to look smart, you’ve got to look presentable and you’ve got to look the authority. I dress to impress. Always.
Tip Number 2
Name badge. The event I went to the other day didn’t provide people with name badges, so I’ve brought my own name badge. This way I’m not a faceless or nameless person.
Tip Number 3
Business cards. I go everywhere armed to the teeth with loads of business cards so I’m not going to run out, because I want to meet and get introduced to as many contacts as I can to make that first impression.
Tip Number 4
I’m always the first person there. I usually try to get in to these events and the doors are locked when I get there. I want to be the first person in, why? Because when I walk through that door, I want to be in a position to introduce myself to everybody that walks through that door.
Tip Number 5
I have a practiced, memorized professional elevator pitch that I deliver when I’m networking. The pitch gets all the key points across in around 60 seconds; who I am, what I do, who I help and who I want to speak to.
